Ahab is a German Doom Metal formation. The band formed in 2004 making Funeral Doom and anno 2015 it is time for their fifth full length album. “The Boats of Glen Carrig” is out now.

The band stated clearly they are inspired by the ocean and so the story Glen Carrig, a novel first published in 1907, seem to be the one they adopted for this album. Five long tracks are presented, a playtime that comes close to an hour will keep you listening. The band plays around a bit with their vocals, perhaps a bit more then we got used to from them and it works in their benefit even though in very small moment you may hear parts that make you question it a bit. Yet, who doesn’t appreciate a bit of experimentation and setting themselves apart from what they have done before. The band has always been digging deep and dark with their sound bit clearly stepped it up another level. More evil, more doom than before as it seems.

The melodic parts are turning hypnotic for those who allow themselves to get taken by the arm and dragged into the deepness of it. One that you need to feel the atmosphere for. A true doom release, not anything close to a crossover so if you don’t appreciate Doom, stay away. Else: buy it!
